NGMN Alliance and TD Industry Association Initiate Cooperation on Next Generation Mobile Networks

NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Networks) board meeting and executive committee meeting were held in Beijing on May 12, 2009. Vice president of China Mobile and board member of NGMN Sha, Yuejia, other CTOs and senior executives from foreign mainstream operators, including AT&T, KDDI, KPN/E-Plus, LG Telecom, NTT DOCOMO, Orange, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, TeliaSonera, T-Mobile, Vodafone, etc. attended the meeting. During the meeting, the requirements on 2010-2011 terminal products of LTE initial stage, including that to set up two frequency bands of TDD, 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz to be the basic frequency band, were discussed and approved. It is decided that NGMN would exert more efforts in promoting the test work of LTE and resource sharing among operators to accelerate the maturity of the technology. Foreign operators showed great interests in the cooperation with China Mobile to promote the sharing of technological advantage, application scenarios, research on product requirements as well as test and operation of TD-LTE.
