Belgian authorities are planning to offer a fourth 3G licence alongside five 2600MHz concessions in September 2010, according to Rethink Wireless, citing reports from local national De Standaard. Belgium has already issued three UMTS licences – to Belgacom, Mobistar and BASE in 2001 – but at that date failed to sell a fourth licence that was on offer. It is understood that the Belgian Institute for Post and Telecommunications (BIPT) will offer 15MHz of 3G spectrum for a minimum bid of EUR80 million (USD109.2 million), although it will also reportedly allow the purchase of three separate 5MHz blocks with a reserve price of EUR40 million each. Those operators believed to be interested in the sale include Belgian cablecos Telenet and Voo.
