Yota's switch to LTE delivers a hammer blow to WiMAX

Source: Ovum
Yota, the leading Russian WiMAX operator, announced last Friday that it will switch to LTE when expanding its network to a further five Russian cities. It will also overlay LTE in Moscow and St Petersburg in 2011, where it already has WiMAX networks. The announcement comes a month after Clearwire announced that it has changed its agreement with Intel to more readily allow the use of, or conversion to, LTE in its network. Although not a knockout blow to WiMAX's future, it is another serious setback for the technology.
