85 million LTE users by the end of 2013.

Long Term Evolution (LTE), the new mobile telecommunications system, will be launched in less than two years time in Japan and by 2013 it will have 85 million users worldwide according to an analysis made by Cantab Wireless. This report scrutinises LTE thoroughly, analysing its technical capabilities and commercial prospects. LTE system specifications are to be finalised in the first half of 2009 and then we can expect to see LTE test networks popping up in several countries, gradually evolving into full commercial LTE network deployments. The report makes some rather surprising findings about the early LTE adopters. Consumers in Europe, the home turf of Ericsson, Nokia and many large multinational mobile operators, will not be among the first to enjoy LTE technology. Instead, LTE will be launched first in Japan, China and the USA.
